Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume

Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume is clearly something for a lady to wear. Launched by the design house of Guerlain in 1989, Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume is classified as a refined, oriental, woody fragrance. The top notes here are citrus and ylang-ylang. Sometimes my nose reads the citrus as lemon and sometimes as bergamot. The middle notes here are jasmine and iris. ONE gets a stronger sense of the jasmine with the iris merely taking the edge off what might otherwise by too sweet. Finally, the base notes here are tonka bean, sandalwood and vanilla. One has grown to really like the combination of vanilla and sandalwood. The tonka beans add a richness to that besides. I also have a sense of amber in the mix, but very pale is a wonderful fragrance. It has a formal feel which limits me to wearing it at night and for special occasions. This is too bad, but I would feel uncomfortable using this as a knock around fragrance. It simply goes better with evening gowns than night gowns, better with black silk than blue jeans. For this reason and because it is expensive, I rarely have Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume on my own table.

Guerlain perfumers have created quite a number of successful classics that have remained true favourites of many ladies I know. For me though, it was their Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume line that caught my fancy partially because of the design of their bottles. The spray nozzle is gold and the top quarter of the bottle is draped with delightful metal carvings of 'honey comb' designs in gold as well. The cap is a clear plastic dome that's fixed in place. It has a lock mechanism to avoid accidental spraying. Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume is described by Guerlain as a "barefoot summer's walk in the early morning, in a dew-damped garden where the first fragrances of grass rise from the soil, blending with the scent of mint, fruit trees and wild flowers". I think this is all very romantic but it is basically a green, fruity herbaceous scent.

On the first spritz, I note a slightly lemony tinge mixed with herbs and mint. The Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume feels and smells fresh and minty, which is a good pick-me-up for blurry mornings. Give it an hour and it will settle down to reveal a slightly floral edge amongst the green, mint and citrus. I am not a big lover of fruit-based fragrances but surprisingly Aqua Allegoria Magnifica Delice Perfume is now a part of my collection and one of my daily scents. The blend is definitely citrus, peppermint shows through quite distinctly upon the first spray and the scent later develops to a wonderful concoction of flowers (lily of the valley although not very noticeable and pear blossom) with a bite of lemon and herb (clover leaf and tea).
